Five Reasons Why You’re Struggling to Lose Fat 
So this is the first of a 5 part series that will explore the reasons why you may potentially be struggling to lose that excess fat. In the chart above you will notice that it is your mentality, or your approach, to achieving your goal(s) that it acts as an umbrella and covers all 5 reasons. 
 
You aren’t eating enough 
You don’t have enough essential fats in your diet 
Poor Macronutrient timing 
Your environment isn’t set up for success 
Not realizing you body is a network of connections 
Mentality is so essential that I’ve decided to start-off this series by covering this topic, which if you are on the ball, you will realise that gives you 6 key reasons …….. ooooooh 20% extra, you lucky people! Straight off the bat I want to say that this is by no means a comprehensive list and there are many more things I could add, but I had to narrow it down to 6. So over the next few weeks I will be expanding on my 6 key reasons and provide you with guidance so that these 6 reasons aren’t what’s holding you back on your fat loss journey. ENJOY. 
 
So what is this magical emotional umbrella that is the platform for my 5-key points. Well it all starts off by finding out what is your ‘Why?’. Why do you want to change?? Now you are probably sat there thinking to yourself “That’s simple, Daniel. I want to look better, build muscle and/or be healthier”. But think deeper about it, that’s not really why you want to change, that’s what you want to do. This is the part where you really have to ask yourself, “why am I wanting to change, what was it that caused me to think ‘its time I did something about this’”. 
 
For most people I meet it’s an intrinsic (internal) spark that’s lit the fuse, such as not liking a picture of themselves. Now I’m not talking about untagging a picture on your Facebook page because you were caught at an awkward moment, we all do that, me probably more than most people. What I’m talking about here is seeing a picture of yourself that made you look twice because you simply didn’t believe it was you. Alternatively, it could have been a doctor’s appointment when they were told that they were pre-diabetic, or were actually diabetic, or suffering from some other health problem that until the doctor had sat them down, they’d kept convincing themselves that ‘it will never happen to me’. It could have been a big life event, such as a wedding, or even the exact opposite; being single after coming out of a long term relationship. Whatever your ‘Why’, it’s important to know this before you start your journey. 
People who fail to reach their destination on their fat loss journey are often asked “why did you fail? What went wrong?” However, viewed from a different perspective, I ask my clients, and even clients of other trainers, who have successfully reached their goals what was it that helped them on their way. Without exception, they all listed the same things, preparation, commitment, planning ahead, dealing with peer pressure etc. But how did they manage to realise all of these things? By recognising their ‘Why’, and using that ‘why’ to drive them forward! 
 
Have you ever wanted something so bad that you would do ANYTHING to get it? Kids do it all the time, they will bargain with you, offering some service that they hate doing to get something they want. I know I used to say I would wash-up for a whole month to get X,Y or Z. But I was determined and would keep asking and nagging until I got what I wanted. You need that same determination you had as a kid. I WANT TO GET IN SHAPE BECAUSE ………………. 
 
Once you have identified your ‘Why?’, your view on the world and your life will change. Instead of fitness and eating healthy being a burden, your lifestyle will become a burden on your fitness and eating, and you will HAVE to change what you were doing to get the results. But you WILL because you are so determined to get what you want. 
 
If you keep saying what you want to do, rather than why you want to do it, then your life won’t change and your change will become a chore not a priority. And if you half-heartedly do something you will get half-hearted results. Those people who put 100% effort into achieving their goals get 100% better results.
